@FrankYiannasFDA
- There are currently no nationwide shortages of food as a result of supply chain disruptions from #COVID19, even though there have been localized reports of shortages.
- While you may see some empty shelves at grocery stores, we understand that this is largely an issue of unprecedented demand – not a lack of capacity to produce, process and deliver. There is no need to hoard supplies, as retailers are continuously working to replenish shelves.
- Food production and manufacturing – for both people and animals – are dispersed throughout the U.S. and there are currently no widespread disruptions reported in the supply chain.
- FDA is working with food manufacturers and grocery stores to closely monitor the food supply chain for any shortages. We are also in close contact with industry and their trade associations on supply chain issues.

@SteveFDA
- Consumers should be extremely cautious of products claiming to treat #COVID19. While FDA is working with medical product developers to quickly advance the development & availability of a #COVID19 treatment, no FDA-approved treatment currently exists.
- Some people and companies are trying to profit from the pandemic by selling unproven/illegally marketed products claiming to diagnose, cure, treat or prevent #COVID19 — these have NOT been evaluated by FDA for safety and effectiveness & might be dangerous to you and your family.
- The chloroquine phosphate used for treating aquarium fish is not the same as the FDA-approved chloroquine being studied as a possible treatment for #COVID19. Do not take any form of chloroquine unless prescribed to you by a health care provider & obtained from legitimate sources.
- We want to warn consumers that this product sold to treat parasites in aquarium fish and may have adverse effects, including serious illness or death, when taken by people.
- FDA is monitoring complaints of fake coronavirus treatments and tests. Consumers & health care professionals can help us by reporting suspected fraud to the FDA’s Health Fraud Program https://www.fda.gov/safety/report-problem-fda/reporting-unlawful-sales-medical-products-internet … or by emailing FDA-COVID-19-Fraudulent-Products@fda.hhs.gov
