- In case you missed it, here’s a recording of #FDA’s briefing today to address food industry questions about COVID-19. FDA is committed to ensuring that the food supply is safe & that the food supply chain, from farm to table, is not disrupted. Listen here: https://www.fda.gov/media/136259/download …
@SteveFDA
- For the well-being of our staff & those who conduct inspections for the agency under state contract, & because of industry concerns about visitors, we have temporarily postponed all domestic surveillance facility inspections during the #COVID19 pandemic. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/coronavirus-covid-19-update-fda-focuses-safety-regulated-products-while-scaling-back-domestic …
- Importantly, all domestic for-cause inspection assignments will be evaluated & will proceed if mission critical. We will continue to respond to natural disasters, outbreaks, & other public health emergencies involving FDA-regulated products.
- ·As a nation, we must do everything we can to help slow the spread of #COVID19 & help flatten the curve of the pandemic. Now more than ever, we must ensure our workforce remains healthy to carry out FDA’s public health mission to keep Americans safe.
- In keeping with the @WhiteHouse #COVID19 task force & cross-government guidance, we directed telework-eligible FDA employees to start teleworking this week. This doesn’t apply to those carrying out non-portable activities, such as lab activities or monitoring of imported products
- We have full confidence in the safety & quality of the products we all use every day. FDA will continue leveraging all available authorities to continue to ensure the integrity of the product we regulate.
- For those conducting inspections through state agreements & contracts, we will be notifying states regarding postponing inspections under the contracts or cooperative agreements you have with FDA. We recognize the impacts this decision may have on states.
- As we identify paths forward that minimize the impact on our partners, we will provide additional guidance as soon as possible, & will continue to evolve our approach to a number of activities, including inspections for all FDA-regulated products as the pandemic evolves.
@SecretarySonny
- America’s farmers are resilient and continue to produce a bountiful harvest. Our food supply chains remain strong. No need to hoard — respect the needs of your fellow neighbors and buy only what’s necessary.

- Workers across the food & ag sector are considered essential critical infrastructure workers. #FDA is working with @DHSgov, @USDA & private industry to make sure our food supply chain remains as efficient as possible during this pandemic.
- Allowing food and ag sector workers to continue to work during periods of community restriction, access management, social distancing, or closure orders/directives is crucial. See more: https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce …
- #FDA wants to give a big shout-out & THANK YOU to all food and agriculture workers, who are serving as everyday heroes to ensure Americans have access to safe foods during this critical time of need.
