  • I saw an interesting news report suggesting FDA’s main concern re CBD is to ensure drug development continues. This is an impt issue but we are also concerned about the need for population-level data to inform safe levels, etc. CBD reg strategy must take all issues into account.

  • Today, FDA sent a letter to the state agricultural directors about how we are modernizing our approach to a new era of smarter food safety where we’ll use new and emerging technologies to create a more digital, traceable, and safer food system https://go.usa.gov/xmeH5

@FDAanimalhealth

  • ·Did you know FDA regulates foods from genetically engineered & genome-edited crops in conjunction w/ the USDA & EPA? Each federal partner plays an integral role in ensuring the safety of biotechnology plant products in the marketplace.
  • FDA ensures the safety of human & animal foods; EPA regulates pesticides incl. new plant varieties developed using biotechnology; & USDA protects agriculture from pests & diseases that may result from new plant varieties developed through biotechnology.
  • Under FDA regulations, human/animal foods from new plant varieties developed through biotechnology must meet the same food safety requirements as foods derived from traditionally bred plants
  • FDA encourages developers of biotech plants to consult w/ the agency before marketing their products to ensure they are safe & lawful. Check out FDA’s blog on the agency’s Voluntary Plant Biotechnology Consultation Program for more info: https://t.co/T8QzQm7BJn
  • FDA is committed to helping foster innovation in the field of plant biotechnology by working with developers to ensure that consumers can be confident that foods developed through the use of biotechnology meet the FDA’s high safety standards.
