USDA to Begin Work to Strengthen Enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act

  • [Note: Announcing 3 proposed GIPSA rules“in the months ahead”: First, USDA intends to propose a new rule that will provide greater clarity to strengthen enforcement of unfair and deceptive practices, undue preferences, and unjust prejudices. Second, USDA will propose a new poultry grower tournament system rule, with the current inactive proposal to be withdrawn. Third, USDA will re-propose a rule to clarify that parties do not need to demonstrate harm to competition in order to bring an action under section 202 (a) and 202 (b) of the P&S Act.]

  • FDA has released our investigation report regarding the outbreak linked to peaches that occurred in Summer 2020. While no test results matched the exact outbreak strain, tests conducted found the presence of Salmonella on samples from adjacent land. https://go.usa.gov/x6926
  • These findings reinforce our concern about the potential impact that adjacent land uses can have on the safety of produce.  We encourage all growers to be cognizant of and assess risks that may be posed by adjacent and nearby land uses.
