@FrankYiannasFDA
- Today, we extended the comment period until Feb. 22 for the Food Traceability Proposed Rule, a key component of our #smarterfoodsafety blueprint. The rule, if finalized, establishes additional industry traceability recordkeeping requirements.
- Thanks @AmericanBakers. Receiving the Bakers’ Dozen Award is especially meaningful to me & #FDA because of what it represents…public & private sector, working together to protect workers & provide consumers with safe & available food during a challenging year.
- [RT @AmericanBakers]: ABA recognized four champions of the baking industry during the 2020 Bakers’ Dozen Awards Reception; Congressman G.T. Thompson (R-PA-15), Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-3), Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Frank Yiannas (FDA). https://bit.ly/3oRhDBU #BakingIndustry
@SteveFDA
- Today, @EPA @USDA & FDA announced the renewal of the joint agency formal agreement, including the “Winning on Reducing Food Waste Initiative,” reaffirming our commitment to better educate Americans on the impacts & importance of reducing food loss/waste. https://go.usa.gov/xAgT9
- At FDA, we’ve encouraged food manufacturers and retailers to standardize the way quality-based date labels are used on packaged foods and developed videos and materials to educate consumers. We’re on track to see a 50% reduction of food waste by 2030.
@US_FDA
- Today, FDA issued a final guidance on an alternate name for potassium chloride and will exercise enforcement discretion for the name “potassium salt” on food labels as an alternative to the common name “potassium chloride.” https://go.usa.gov/xAY7R
- FDA is proposing to revoke the standards of identity & quality for frozen cherry pie, which was finalized in the 1970s. No other fruit pies have SOIs, which describe how a product must be made by manufacturers. https://go.usa.gov/xAY76
@FTC
- ICYMI: FTC announces crackdown on deceptively marketed CBD products. Companies made unsupported claims that their oils, balms, gummies, coffee, and other goods could treat serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes: https://go.usa.gov/xAgFN
