@FrankYiannasFDA

  • THREAD: Today #FDA released results from a sampling assignment of romaine lettuce from the Yuma, AZ growing region following last year’s E. coli outbreak. We’re happy to report that we did not detect any bacteria that could cause illnesses in consumers https://go.usa.gov/xVxGa
  • Farms in the Yuma area provide the majority of leafy greens that reach consumers in the U.S. during the winter months (Nov. to March). FDA began sampling romaine from this area in December 2018 after the season’s harvest began, to monitor the risk of lettuce entering the market.
  • We will continue to work with leafy greens stakeholders in the Yuma region to consider a longer-term environmental study to identify factors that could inform future, strengthened, preventive efforts, with the ultimate goal of protecting consumers.

  • FDA is cautioning pet owners not to feed certain lots of Texas Tripe Inc. raw pet food due to Salmonella and/or Listeria monocytogenes. These pathogens can infect both pets and their human caregivers. For more info: https://go.usa.gov/xVx6A
