2020 Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Red Onions Report
- [NOTE: The report noted that although a conclusive root cause could not be identified, the FDA’s leading hypothesis is that contaminated irrigation water used in a growing field may have led to contamination of the onions. “FDA encourages all produce growers to assess risks that may be posed by adjacent and nearby land uses, especially as it relates to the presence of livestock and the interface between farmland, rangeland, irrigation water, and other agricultural areas.”]

- The FDA is committed to safeguarding the U.S. food supply. Today, we’ve released a report on the 2020 Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Red Onions with comprehensive findings on what may have contributed to the largest Salmonella outbreak in over a decade. https://go.usa.gov/xH6Bs
- Good to see “Food Safety Culture” & “Food Safety Leadership” as major points of discussion among colleagues, because they’re different than a Food Safety Program & Food Safety Management – and they’re critical to make further progress. Food Safety Culture and Leadership Skills are Key Focus on Day Two of Food Safety Summit (yahoo.com)
@DrWoodcockFDA
- Food safety is a shared responsibility that involves food producers, distributors, manufacturers, retailers, and regulators. FDA is committed to working with these stakeholders to reduce the potential for contamination events and ensure the continued safety of our food supply.
