- Today, we provided an update on the status of @US_FDA inspections outside of the U.S. in response to the #COVID19 outbreak. https://go.usa.gov/xdHfA
- After careful consideration, using additional tools to ensure safety of imported products, & keeping in mind the health & safety of our employees, FDA is postponing most foreign inspections through April. Mission-critical inspections will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- We based this decision on factors including @StateDept Level 4 travel advisories prohibiting US government employee travel, @CDCgov travel recommendations, access restrictions on foreign visitors by certain countries, guidance from @USOPM, & the health & safety of our employees.
- A critical factor in postponing most federal inspections is the confidence we have in our ability to maintain oversight over international manufacturers & imported products using alternative tools & methods during the #coronavirus outbreak.

- Yesterday, FDA re-opened the CBD public docket. This provides a valuable conduit for submission of scientific data and other info on CBD products and will allow the public to comment and to share relevant data with FDA as research evolves: https://go.usa.gov/xd6NV
- The docket also includes a way to submit data/information that a stakeholder believes to be confidential. We hope this will enable industry, researchers & others to share relevant information, incl. about specific products, which could help inform appropriate regulatory steps.
- We’re seeking reliable, high-quality data on, among other things: sedative effects of CBD; impacts of long-term sustained/cumulative exposure; effects of different routes of administration (e.g., oral, topical, inhaled); & safety for use in pets/food-producing animals.
- As part of our work announced last week, we’re encouraging, facilitating & initiating more research on CBD, providing venues for industry/researchers to share new data with FDA and identifying opportunities to further collaborate with federal partners.
