@SteveFDA

  •  I am honored to serve as the 24th Commissioner of Food and Drugs. I would like to thank @SecAzar for swearing me in today and @POTUS for the opportunity to lead FDA. I would also like to thank my family for their support throughout this process.
  • The FDA is the gold standard for protecting public health and is admired around the world for its work ensuring the safety, efficacy & security of our medical products & safety of our food supply. It is my privilege to join this mission.
  • I am a scientist & medical doctor and believe strongly in disciplined research, adhering to sound data, and upholding the law. These principles have guided me as I treated my patients through my entire professional life and will continue to guide me at the FDA.
  • I am eager to begin working with the staff at the FDA, who bring incredible expertise and a deep commitment to agency’s mission. I look forward to learning and working alongside the many experts at FDA to fulfill our important work.

@US_FDA

  • ROMAINE UPDATE: @CDCgov reports that federal health officials have confirmed 138 illnesses from E. coli in 25 states linked to romaine. https://go.usa.gov/xp7RF
  • Traceback investigations identified a common grower, and we continue to investigate the outbreak. Consumers should still avoid romaine from Salinas.
