I am honored to serve as the 24th Commissioner of Food and Drugs. I would like to thank @SecAzar for swearing me in today and @POTUS for the opportunity to lead FDA. I would also like to thank my family for their support throughout this process.
The FDA is the gold standard for protecting public health and is admired around the world for its work ensuring the safety, efficacy & security of our medical products & safety of our food supply. It is my privilege to join this mission.
I am a scientist & medical doctor and believe strongly in disciplined research, adhering to sound data, and upholding the law. These principles have guided me as I treated my patients through my entire professional life and will continue to guide me at the FDA.
I am eager to begin working with the staff at the FDA, who bring incredible expertise and a deep commitment to agency’s mission. I look forward to learning and working alongside the many experts at FDA to fulfill our important work.

ROMAINE UPDATE: @CDCgov reports that federal health officials have confirmed 138 illnesses from E. coli in 25 states linked to romaine. https://go.usa.gov/xp7RF
Traceback investigations identified a common grower, and we continue to investigate the outbreak. Consumers should still avoid romaine from Salinas.
