  • These reports are becoming more frequent related to the opioid Kratom; reflecting its increasing popularity and more people using it at high doses or in combination with other opioids. Kratom can suppress metabolism of other opioids, leading to toxicities
  • Reports of adverse events are growing in the press. We continue to warn consumers of the addictive and systemic risks associated with opioid Kratom. Also, a very high percent of Kratom is contaminated with salmonella, which can sicken at even low doses.
  • We’ll share these local media reports, like this one below and the other 3 shared today (all from the last week) to help consumers stay informed of the risks. We continue to advise that Kratom is an opioid, can be addictive, and has no proven medical use
  • OUTBREAK UPDATE: As of Aug 23, 2018, a total of 507 laboratory-confirmed cases of #Cyclospora infection were reported in people who consumed salads from McDonald’s restaurants; the cases were reported by 15 states & NYC. https://go.usa.gov/xUvfw
  • The investigation is ongoing and the FDA is currently reviewing distribution and supplier information for romaine and carrots. Consumers with Cyclospora symptoms (diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea) should contact their healthcare provider. https://go.usa.gov/xUvfw
  • OUTBREAK UPDATE: @cdcgov reported 31 new cyclospora illnesses from Fresh Express lettuce mostly used by McDonalds. No product should be available for consumers & we continue to investigate. https://go.usa.gov/xUvfw
