  • Proud to work with @US_FDA Deputy Commissioner Dr. Namandjé Bumpus on everything from the proposed reorganization unifying the Human Foods Program & modernizing the agency, to ensuring the safety of cosmetic products. She’s a brilliant scientist & leader—we’re lucky to have her.

@SecVilsack

  • Discrimination, retaliation, and deception against producers and growers has no place in modern livestock and poultry markets. @USDA is building momentum to deliver more for America’s farmers and ranchers.
  • Our new final rule under the Packers and Stockyards Act advances economic opportunity and fairness and is another example of how @USDA is increasing competition in agricultural markets for our farmers, ranchers, and producers.

Elevated Lead Levels in Cinnamon prompt FDA Warning and Recalls

Twitter

@US_FDA

  • FDA is taking several additional steps to address concerns about elevated lead levels in cinnamon following the recent incident associated with certain cinnamon apple sauce pouches that resulted in lead poisoning in young children.
  • Today, we sent a letter to all cinnamon manufacturers, processors, distributors, and facility operators in the U.S. reminding them of the requirement to implement controls to prevent contamination from potential chemical hazards in food, including ground cinnamon products.
  • We’re also recommending the voluntary recall of certain ground cinnamon products sold by a number of brands at six different retail chains that were found to contain elevated levels of lead.
