- Ten years ago, we began advancing food safety culture as a legitimate subset of the profession, rather than a tagline or slogan. Ten years later, we’re just getting started. This year’s class is filling up fast. http://shorturl.at/jpC16 @MSUFoodSafety
- Many food producers are making great strides in advancing food traceability. A few are taking shortcuts that will hinder an inability to accurately pinpoint contaminated food, & contribute to passing inaccurate data along the food chain. No shortcuts. https://progressivegrocer.com/exclusive-how-traceability-shortcuts-can-prove-costly-food-safety
@FDAfood
- FDA’s outbreak investigation of E. coli in RAW FARM-brand raw cheddar cheese is closed and CDC declares outbreak over. We will continue to monitor for additional illnesses and this investigation may be reopened if additional cases are identified. https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/outbreak-investigation-e-coli-o157h7-raw-cheddar-cheese-february-2024
- Sodium reduction is in the spotlight at FDA! New, voluntary targets are being developed for sodium reduction in a wide variety of foods to further the progress on sodium reduction. https://www.fda.gov/food/food-labeling-nutrition/fdas-nutrition-initiatives

- This morning, I visited Great River Organic Milling in Fountain City, WI, to celebrate the first climate-branded consumer product being brought to the market under @USDA’s Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities effort.
- Our veterinary teams at @USDA_APHIS, and federal and state veterinary and public health partners, are actively monitoring the detection of HPAI in four TX and KS dairy herds. Based on findings from Texas, the detections appear to have been introduced by wild birds.
- We are encouraging farmers to follow biosecurity practices and to report symptoms to their state veterinarians. Milk from affected cows has been diverted from the market, and pasteurization also kills viruses in milk. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/newsroom/news/sa_by_date/sa-2024/hpai-cattle
- Today, Equity Commission members Poppy Sias Hernandez and Todd Corley co-hosted the first @USDA Regional Convening at @Carhartt HQ in Michigan in partnership with USDA, Carhartt, and the State of Michigan.
- The forum explored the “Power of Partnerships” and how public and private partners can influence the next-gen of farming, sustainable ag, food security and sovereignty, and more, in follow up to the Equity Commission’s Final Report: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/usda-equity-commission-final-report.pdf
