@SecVilsack
- This week at @USDA we are celebrating National Ag Day and National Ag Week by taking a moment to thank all of our tireless agriculture workers.
- Thank you, @agripulse, for the opportunity to speak at the 2023 Agri-Pulse Ag & Food Policy Summit about @USDA’s efforts to support the next generation of ag leaders. Building a bright future for agriculture requires bringing new, diverse voices into the fold.
@frankyiannas
- Over the past 3 months, there have been 3 different recalls of powdered infant formula (Gerber, Enfamil, & ByHeart), because of potential contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii. This is unusual and almost NEVER happened in the past.
- POP QUIZ – Why now, what changed? A) manufacturing conditions have deteriorated, B) manufacturers are reporting positive tests to FDA (although NOT required by law) or C) FDA doing more thorough records reviews & learning of company positive tests, resulting in expanded recalls?
- I’m proud to have been part of the team at FDA that resulted in more thorough inspections now being done of powdered infant formula plants. But there’s more that CAN be done and MUST be done by both regulators and industry to further protect infants in this country. Stay tuned. I plan to write about that.
