Secretary Vilsack Announces USDA and FFAR Innovation Challenge to Catalyze Agricultural Solutions

Proposed Rule Poultry Grower Payment Systems and Capital Improvement Systems Publishes in the Federal Register; Comment Period Open through August 9

  • I was honored to give keynote remarks at the @IntFreshProduce‘s #TWC2024. IFPA is the lynchpin of the farm-to-table industry, and your work to grow businesses in the fruit, produce, and floral sectors strengthens the work we do at @USDA to build a more resilient food system.
  • Today, I announced how @USDA is taking our commitment to high-risk, high-reward, and transdisciplinary research a step further by unveiling a new Innovation Challenge in partnership with FFAR at @USDA’s Agrifood Innovation Symposium. The event elevated the conversation around how federal investments in agricultural research, development, and partnerships advance breakthroughs necessary for building a more nourishing, sustainable, and equitable agrifood system.

  • @USDA is committed to reducing food loss and waste, facilitating many programs and activities to engage farmers, producers, communities, and businesses in this collective effort and charts a course to reduce our nation’s food loss and waste by 50% by 2030.
  • I am encouraged by the actions outlined for USDA and our federal partners. Everyone has a role to play in reducing food loss and waste, and I hope that these federal commitments will inspire and catalyze action in the private sector and communities around the U.S.
