Currently there are no standardized manufacturing regulations for hemp or hemp products to help guide businesses or regulatory officials in the US. There is also a lack of peer-reviewed literature identifying how the compounds in hemp affect, or are affected by, different food products.

Association of Food and Drug Officials and FOCUS – Foundation Of Cannabis Unified Standards, along with regulatory subject matter experts, have developed a Model Hemp Code to safeguard public health. The goal is to provide a technical document as a guide for regulating the manufacture of orally consumed hemp products
