AFDO at International Association of Food Protection Annual Meeting
The Association of Food and Drug Officials exhibited at the 2019 IAFP Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT with AFDO President Steven Moris, past president Steven Mandernach, and Alena King from the AFDO staff.
AFDO co-sponsored a symposium entitled “State and Local Regulatory Agency Foodborne Outbreak Identification.” Steven Mandernach a past president of AFDO convened the and organized the session. Presenters were as follows:
- Washington State Retail Raw Milk Outbreak and Whole Genome Sequencing, Randy Treadwell, , Washington State Dept. of Agriculture
- Nebraska 2017 Salmonella Coffee Shop Outbreak, Tom Safranek, Nebraska Department of Health, Lincoln
- Use of Environmental Sampling and Whole Genome Sequencing to Solve Outbreaks in New York State, David Nicholas, New York State Department of Health
Further, the Florida Rapid Response Team and several AFDO members also presented a symposium entitled “Food Safety and Hurricanes – The Eye of the Storm Room. Presenters included Michael Roberson from Publix Super Markets, Summer Williams from the Florida Department of Agriculture, Elizabeth Ormond from FDA, and Jamie Dement from the Florida Department of Health.
Carrie Rigdon from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture was on the program committee for IAFP this year.
