This color-coded map indicates which regulatory agencies (state only, local only, or both) have responsibility for regulating food service establishments and retail food stores within each state. Users can mouse “click” on a state on the map or state name below the map to be redirected to the AFDO Retail Food Regulatory Program Directory for that state. From the directory, users can access state and local program contacts and general jurisdictional authorities such as Food Code version adopted, bare hand contact prohibitions, Certified Food Protection Manager requirements and food handler training requirements.

States which have a circle indicate a state department of agriculture that directly provides inspections of retail food stores with no local agencies providing inspections. The state departments of health with responsibility may have locals providing some inspections of food service establishments.
