The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is the responsible agency for conducting all food safety work in Michigan. By delegatory authority, MDARD grants the 45 Local Health Departments (LHD) and the City of Detroit the ability to enforce the act and rules for foodservice establishments. The LHD’s confirm that an establishment meets the requirements and forwards the recommendation to MDARD and a license is issued from MDARD to that establishment.
