  • ·        FDA is aware of new temporary Canadian requirements for romaine lettuce from Salinas. We’re committed to protecting consumers & supporting Salinas growers as we consider this new requirement. CA-grown products are consumed safely every day & exported to countries around the world
  • ·        One outbreak linked to fresh leafy greens is one too many. It’s why in 2020 we issued the Leafy Greens STEC Action Plan, released new protocol on registration of antimicrobial treatments for ag water, issued a food traceability proposed rule, & more.
  • ·        FDA has an unwavering commitment to help ensure safety of foods produced & consumed in the U.S. We’ll continue to help improve the safety of leafy greens, regardless of where they are grown, so that Americans can continue to trust the safety of foods.
  • ·        Study, machine learning models that use public-data (e.g., land-use, weather) may be useful in predicting likelihood of ag water being contaminated with pathogens such as Salmonella & Shiga-toxin producing E. coli.  #SmarterFoodSafety @foodsafetyprof
