  • ·        FOOD RECALL: Pepperidge Farm is voluntarily recalling four varieties of Goldfish crackers due to the potential presence of Salmonella. Fed health officials have no evidence of illnesses. More info: https://go.usa.gov/xUPz2  (Image doesn't represent all recalled products--see link.)
  • ·        Kraft Heinz Voluntarily Recalls Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip Distributed to Retailers http://dlvr.it/QckWfK
  • ·        FOOD RECALL: #FDA is working with Kraft Heinz to recall 7,000 cases of Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip. No illnesses have been reported. https://go.usa.gov/xUEnf
  • ·        RECALL UPDATE: As part of the whey-related recall, we’re boots on ground at AMPI as of yesterday inspecting the facility that processes the whey in question.  https://go.usa.gov/xUEEx
  • ·        AMPI has several distributors and we’re working to identify the firms they supply to in an effort to determine if any received potentially contaminated product and what, if any, food may be contaminated with Salmonella. There could be additional recalls based on what we find.
  • ·        This is a common ingredient that’s likely used in other products. But not all products that used the potentially contaminated whey will need to be recalled. Some products may have processing steps or “kill steps” (like heating to certain temps) that could eliminate the risk.
  • ·        We’ll work through this with manufacturers as we identify them. #FDA is closely coordinating with @CDCgov so we’ll be aware of any potential illnesses that may be identified. There are still no confirmed cases of illness to date. https://go.usa.gov/xUEEx
  • ·        AMPI Recalls Limited Amount of Dry Whey Powder Because of Possible Health Risk http://dlvr.it/QclS3r
  • ·        Should there be a standard icon or symbol for the claim “healthy”? We will be discussing that and more at the FDA’s public meeting tomorrow on our #NutritionInnovation Strategy. Not too late to sign up for the webcast! http://go.usa.gov/xUakt
  • ·        The Comprehensive, Multi-Year #NutritionInnovation Strategy Public Meeting is one way FDA continues to reach out for stakeholder & public input and involvement. We’re excited to hear your thoughts! #NutritionInnovation. Submit an official comment @https://go.usa.gov/xUPhT

  • ·        “We see a market that’s actively trying to respond to consumer expectations, and FDA can help by providing a framework for encouraging industry to compete on the nutritional attributes of their products... 1/3
  • ·        We need a policy framework that allows consumers to readily identify healthier options. We need a framework that inspires the marketplace to reformulate foods at an affordable cost, with science driving reformulation decisions... 2/3
  • ·        The Nutrition Innovation Strategy is aimed at providing such a framework. It’s designed to empower consumers with modernized food labels. And it’s designed to empower manufacturers to innovate to meet consumer demand.” @SGottliebFDA #FDANutritionInnovationStrategy 3/3
  • ·        Couldn’t attend the #NutritionInnovation Strategy Public Meeting in person, but have suggestions for how to make the Ingredients statement on food labels more consumer friendly? Submit your comment to the federal docket @ https://go.usa.gov/xUPhT
  • ·        THREAD: #FDA and partners continue investigating possible Salmonella contamination of an ingredient used in several popular foods. #FDA is onsite investigating the AMPI facility and we’re working to identify if any other food may be contaminated. https://go.usa.gov/xUmp6
  • ·        There are no confirmed illnesses related to these products. But we know these products are consumed daily across our country, often by children, which is why we’re alerting consumers.
  • ·        We take this work very seriously. I also want to reassure consumers that we are not seeing an increase in the number or scope of recalls.
  • ·        The American food supply is safer than ever before thanks to the preventive measures set forth in the landmark #FDA Food Safety Modernization Act and advances in technology that help us detect and respond to problems.
  • ·        OUTBREAK UPDATE: Today @CDCgov reports that a Salmonella outbreak in pre-cut melons from Caito Foods appears to be over with 77 cases reported in 9 states from 4/30 to 7/2. Consumers with symptoms should still contact their health care provider https://go.usa.gov/xUmsv

  • ·        FDA greatly appreciates all the public comments today. We plan to continue dialogue on the approach to improving food policies to encourage healthier food options for consumers as one way to reduce the burden of disease as work continues with the #NutritionInnovation Strategy.
  • ·        Robin McKinnon, CFSAN’s Senior Advisor for Nutrition Policy, is wrapping up today's public meeting & talking about next steps for FDA’s approach to empowering consumers and encouraging food innovation. #NutritionInnovation Strategy
