Resolution Number 7:

Infected Foodservice Employees

Whereas, Viruses have been implicated by the Center for Disease Control as the major contributing biological agent to foodborne illness, and

Whereas, The Center for Disease Control strongly suggests that Norwalk-like viruses are the primary etiological agents which cause the majority of foodborne illnesses in the United States, and

Whereas, The major source of Norwalk-like viruses is sick people, therefore be it

Resolved, That AFDO in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration take a proactive role in educating the foodservice industry regarding the risk of sick employees playing a major part in causing outbreaks of foodborne illness, and be it further

Resolved, That AFDO request that the Food and Drug Administration develop educational materials (i.e., printed literature, videos, computer modules) specific to training the food service industry on restricting ill employees from work.
